Bushings

Bushings are a critical part of your suspension, and they take a lot of abuse when you’re off-roading. They help reduce vibration and metal-on-metal contact in the suspension of your vehicle.

Worn-out or failing bushings can make your next off-roading trip a bumpy ride – or even result in damage to other suspension components. At Toytec Lifts, we have a wide variety of Toyota bushing kit options available.

What Are Bushings & Why Do You Need Them?

Suspension bushings are specialized cushions made of rubber, polyurethane, or another compressible, durable material. They’re mounted on car suspension components like control arms, tie rods, stabilizers, strut/shock absorber mounts, and ball joints, to name just a few. Bushings are used wherever metal-to-metal contact between two suspension parts needs to be avoided.

Bushings are important because without a bushing, metal suspension parts would contact each other directly – causing premature wear & tear to your suspension. In addition, bushings help absorb shocks and bumps, cushioning your suspension components and leading to a smoother ride, as well as a longer lifespan for other suspension and steering parts.

If your Toyota off-roader still has stock bushings, it may be time to replace them with specialized off-roading bushings from Toytec. These bushings hold up to the rigors and challenges of driving off-road, and offer a longer lifespan and superior performance both on and off the trail.

When Should I Replace My Bushings?

Bushings, like other suspension parts, have a limited lifespan. They go through quite a bit of wear & tear, particularly on 4x4s and off-road vehicles that often experience large jolts and bumps. While they are very durable, they will eventually wear out with repeated use.

If your bushings are wearing out, you’ll likely notice that your truck or 4x4 is making a lot more noise when traveling over bumps both on and off-road. If you’re hearing more “clunking” or “rattling” sounds while driving, you may need to replace your bushings.

Another common sign is shimmying, poor handling, and loose steering when operating your vehicle. Worn-out suspension bushings allow for more movement, so your truck may not feel as responsive to turns and hard braking. This can be dangerous both on streets and while off-roading.

If you’re mechanically handy, you can check your bushings on your own to check for cracks, suspension play, and other signs that they need to be replaced. Otherwise, you can get an inspection from a mechanic to confirm that your bushings need replacement.
