Common 2005-2015 Tacoma lift kits, parts, and accessories questions
Q. Do I need the diff drop kit on my 2005-2015 4x4 Tacoma?
Yes and no. The diff drop kit does lessen the angles on the axles, not a bad addition.
Q. Can I Use your 3" lift front spacers with the 3" coil kit for 6" total lift?
NO, you cannot. 3" is the maximum front lift on these vehicles without replacing, or lowering the entire front cross member. The control arms, ball joints and Cv axles will not allow more lift.
Q. Do I need longer shocks with your 3" kit?
No, The stock shocks work exceptionally well on the 2005-2015 Tacoma trucks. We do stock several longer rear shocks for optimum flex, and performance off road if desired. Kits with front coils will benefit from the use of OME front shocks, they are designed to match the front coils.
Q. Can I use shackles or add-a-leafs on the rear for lift?
No, You cannot use shackles on the 2005-2015 Tacoma trucks, their rear spring mounts do not allow standard "bolt on" shackle designs to work. We recommend the longer rear Toytec add-a-leafs for rear lift. The ride is not too firm, and the extra load capacity is nice.
Q. Will the kits you offer "level" my truck?
Yes, our 3" complete front and rear kits are designed to level your truck, by lifting the front 3" and the rear 2". The 2 1/2" kits will leave the rear slightly higher like stock.
Q. What size tires can I run on stock wheels with the 3" kit?
We have not tested every wheel/tire size on these trucks, but 265/75/16 tires are about the largest for the 2005-2015 Tacoma trucks, on stock wheels. The back spacing, and distance of the tire to suspension components is very close on the front end.
Q. What size tires can I run on a 16x8" wheel?
With 4" or 4.5" back spacing we have several trucks running 285/75/16 tires, but they may rub on the front depending on wheel width, and back spacing. We do not guarantee any tire/ wheel fitment and recommend you have your tire dealer install and "test fit" any wheel tire combination you are considering.
Q. What is the difference between the coil kits, and the spacer lifts?
The kits with coils in the front can be a better option for some trucks. The ride on the 05up Tacoma trucks with spacers only in front is not firmer than kits with coils, contrary to belief. On some models spacers only may actually ride softer. Either will be slightly firmer than stock. The kits with OME front coils will give the best ride when used with the OME shocks too. There are different coils available for handling the weight of an aftermarket bumper and or winch, so if you have a bumper and or winch, or are planning on adding one the kits with coils would be the best option.
Q. Is there more stress on front end components (CV axles, joints, and ball joints) if I use your lift with spacers only and not coils?
No, this is a common misconception that is completely false, neither our spacers or kits with front coils cause more stress or wear on front end components than the other. There are however other manufacturers spacers we have seen that will cause problems if too much spacer is over the top plate of the shock.
Q. Will I need an alignment after the lift?
Yes, you will need an alignment after the lift install. We recommend the Camber be set to zero and toe .04 degrees.
Q. Will the installation of a lift Void my warranty?
The installation of a lift will not Void the warranty. Coverage on any part that is proven to be damaged as the result of a lift or any condition caused by the install of a lift can be denied for coverage though. There is more warranty information on our Warranty page.
